Sometimes A Break Is The Best Thing For Us

Sometimes when you are moving forward it helps to look back because sometimes our past stops us from moving forward but after we deal with our past we're able to move forward more effectively.

Have you ever noticed that as you are trying to change your life and achieve your goals, sometimes, you seem to hit a wall?

I think back so many times in my own life, where I've been trying to accomplish something like starting a business, losing weight/gaining muscle, trying to get a better job, trying to make friends and be in a relationship and often times I always found myself struggling to move forward.

I think a lot of times when we are trying to do something new and it's becoming difficult it doesn't mean we need to work harder, it means we need to really take some time to pause and evaluate what is really keeping us stuck.

What Is Holding Us Back

I don't know about you but a lot of the things that have kept me stuck have been things or "rules" I have set in the past to keep me safe.

You know the type of rules where something bad happened in your life and in order to be safe, you told yourself I am not going to do XYZ again?

The rules we setup in the past can sometimes stop us from moving forward.

Take for instance, a lot of us have shame that we carry around with us and in order for that shame to not be noticed we'll isolate ourselves or we'll be sure to not get too close to people but then wonder why we don't have very many relationships.

Others, might have gotten really hurt in a past relationship and made a rule that they would never date anyone again who is like xyz. The problem though, is just because one person does one thing, doesn't many everyone like them is going to do the same thing to you.

Or how many people when relating to fitness and health have tried getting into shape or tried a diet program and when it didn't work, just gave up and told themselves, I guess I'll just always be overweight because I've tried "everything" in reality they may have only tried one or two things?

How To Change The Past And Move Forward

The truth is any of these rules you've made in the past can be changed. You made the rule, you can alter it.

Take a moment now and think of an area in your life where you've struggled.

Now dig deeper and really ask yourself, "Is there a bias or rule I've designed in the past where there was a situation that caused pain and I told myself I wouldn't allow myself to be in this type of situation again?"

Next, ask yourself, "Is this rule I created in the past, actually effective in my current situation or can I eliminate or alter this rule?"

Once you've changed the rule or altered what is allowed, over the next couple weeks now start to notice how you are able to push past the wall that once kept you stuck.
