How To Create A Power Hour

I've been using the Power of One Hour since 2006 when I first moved to North Carolina. Even when working full-time I always made a point to come home from work, eat dinner and put at least an hour towards my biggest dreams.

"

Learn to work harder on yourself than you do on your job. If you work hard on your job you'll make a living, if you work hard on yourself you can make a fortune.

Jim Rohn

Author & Motivational Speaker

Jim Rohn once said, "Learn to work harder on yourself than you do on your job. If you work hard on your job you'll make a living, if you work hard on yourself you can make a fortune."

When you spend at least an hour every day working on your gifts and talents you'll develop them into the skills that people pay high dollar for.

People buy value, and the only way to create that value is by setting big goals that stretch and challenge you to become more. And as you become more, you extend the value you are able to give others and that allows you to charge more for what you have to offer.

How To Get Started

I know a lot of people will tell themselves I am just too busy to do anything else, I just don't have time.

Those are the same people that five years down the road will look back on their journey with regret and wish that they had made more time for their dreams instead of wasting on things that just kept them "busy."

When you really look at things though, you have plenty of time.

Where Are You Wasting Time?

"

For some reason, as time gets short in life, wasting time escaping through entertainment bothers me.

Dick Van Dyke

Entertainer

The best way to come up with an hour is to really be honest with yourself and look where you spend your time. You can use a simple Google Calendar Hack to keep track of your time.

Once you've seen where you spend your time, you will quickly notice that you spend a lot of extra time on two things: 1) entertainment and 2) comfort.

We go out to movies, we binge on Netflix, we hang out with friends and we spend hours playing videos games or stalking on social media; I'm victim to these times wasters too.

There Is Still Hope

There is still light at the end of the tunnel for change though. Instead of watching another rerun of The Office. Instead plan your time at the beginning of the week and add slots throughout the evenings dedicating at least an hour each night towards your biggest goals.

We seek entertainment because it's the simplest destination for pleasure and we want to be entertained, but when you create big goals with compelling why statements and rewards, you'll quickly realize you are selling yourself short, and then it becomes easier to spare an hour here and an hour there.

After you start building momentum in your life, like myself, you'll see yourself spending a lot more than an hour each night and less time being distracted by unfulfilling pleasures.

For those of you who have a goal of starting a business, hopefully really soon that hour will turn into 8-12 a day as you'll finally being do what you dream of.
